Our ayurvedic medicines are just like a herbal sword which prevents our body from many different diseases and also shields our HEALTH.

JEERAKA(Cuminum cyminum) i.e cumin seed or jeera is most commonly used Indian spice, which has been used since the Vedic or samhita times. Ayurvedic aacharyas prescribed jeeraka as a medicinal remedy for several health problems. So wise were our grannies that they decided to add it to spice box and use it everyday, to ensure its sustained health benefits to the family.
Its sharp actions over the gut related problems or digestive issues.
Jeeraka by its TIKTA & KATU rasa and USHNA veerya works as Carminative(DEEPANA) and Strengthen the digestive functions (PACHANA).
Due to its USHNA and SNIGDHA guna it helps in the VATTA-ANULOMAN(brings normal movement of vatta).
By its above written properties it treats AGNIMANDYA(Decreased digestive fire) and AAMJANYA VIKARA(disease due to digested food).
2) HINGU(Asafoetida)
Hingu/Hing (Ferula narthex Boiss) is one such spice that adds flavour and aroma to the food and makes the food more tasty and easily digestible.
The most fantastic quality of Hing is that, by its flavour and aroma, it not only spreads it's fragrance in its surroundings but also attracts our taste signals from brain towards the food in which it is present as it improves our taste and also increases one's appetite.
Hing due to its KATU RASA, KATU VIPAKA and USHNA VEERYA increases the digestive fire and helps in the proper food digestion.
Intake procedure:-
a)Pinch of hing with lukewarm water.
b)Hing powder mixed with food stuffs.
3) MARICH
Marich(Piper nigrum Linn) or BLACK PEPPER is small sized spice which not only increases the taste of the food but also makes the body strong and impowers the digestive fire.
Our SAMHITAS and GRANTHS has mentioned marich as a DEEPANA (Carminative), SHOOLPRASHMAN (Analgesic), & JANTUGHNA (Anti-bacterial) dravya.
Marich removes toxins, stimulates the organs and heals many impairments.
It is also used as an antidote for insect bites.
How marich helps in digestive problems ?
Marich due to its USHNA Veerya and KATU Rasa and Vipaka helps in digestion of food by its DEEPANA (Carminative) and PACHANA (Impowers the digestion) properties.
Due to its above properties it treats Indigestion, Anorexia, tastelessness.
4) ARDRAKA/SHUNTHI
Ardraka(Zingiber officinale) is an very ancient and popular home remedy, which have its own fragrance and flavour. It plays an important role in our home diaries. It also occupies a large place in our medicine.
Ardraka due its KATU rasa and USHNA veerya strengthens the digestive fire, so helps in problems which are related with MANDA-AGNI(low digestive fire).
As ardraka has Katu rasa it helps in the cleaning and clearing of tongue and throat respectively. By its cleaning action it also improve the taste towards the food and treats Anorexia.
It should be used as :-
Shunthi churna with Madhu
5) CHITRAK
Chitrak(Plumbago zeylanica Linn.) in early folk medicine, used the crushed plant internally and externally as an abortifacient. In ayurved, P. zeylanica is known as chitrak, meaning "the spotted one".
The root of Chitrak, a major source of plumbagin, has been used in traditional Indian medicine since 750 BC as an anti-atherogenic, cardiotonic, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective agent. P. zeylanica has also been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, dysmenorrhea, injury by bumping, and cancer.
Chitrak also helps to reduce fat accumulation because of its Katu Rasa, Katu Vipaka and Ushna Veerya it shows its Deepana(appetizer/carminative) and Pachana(strengthens digestive power) properties.
It also helps to manage constipation due to its Rechana(laxative) property, thereby managing Obesity, laziness and increases the digestive fire. Due its effect on digestive fire it helps in the formation of good digestive product i.e AAHARA RASA and digest the aama that is formed during the low digestive fire.
You can take :-
1) Chitrak root Powder with ghrit, Madhu or milk for increasing digestive fire.
2) Chitrak root Powder with Takra(butter milk) in Atisar(DIARRHOEA).
Cause for both i.e GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT and DISEASE depends on the food you take. So, right choice will develops you and wrong choice disease you.
